Directory

As an important asort to navigation through the Roanoke Colonies Illuminated website the editors decsorted to construct a directory of highlighted terms from the narrative texts. Readers will find in the Directory not only the basic highlighted terms but also the many variant spellings of that term (especially proper names of people and places) that appeared throughout the narratives. Since many of the highlighted terms begin with the given name of a person rather than his/her surname, it is useful to look both for given names (e.g., Walter) as well as surnames (e.g., Raleigh)

Readers will also find through the Directory a wealth of additional information about both the text entries and the images used to illustrate various terms. Thus one should highlight a variety of options once selecting a particular term for further study.
