Alternate spelling of the Algonquian village "Pasquenoke/Passaquenoke." Because the Indians of the area surrounding Roanoke did not have a written language, necessarily phonetic spellings of their names for things, coupled with the 16th century standard flexibility and creativity in spelling for English language result in multiple, often very different spellings of the same words throughout the text.
