pallisado

Additional Notes

Spanish derived alternate, synonymous with "palisade" meaning generally "any protective hedge" or, as defined by the OED: "Originally: a fence made of wooden pales or stakes fixed in the ground, forming an enclosure or defence."
It should be noted that this palisade solely exists in Lane's head as a conjectural plan. It was never actually built. However, drawings by White do exist of another fort built by the English explorers while they were landed in Puerto Rico. While this is in a different location, good information about fort construction and palisades may be obtained from this painting.
