Developer, James Goodnight, purchased a building in Raleigh for renovation, but did not plan to begin construction on the building until 2016. N.C. State School of Design student, Shelley Smith, contacted Goodnight and is now leasing the space as an art studio and exhibition area until construction begins. Smith hopes that this example of using free space will become a trend in the Raleigh area, for it is a great opportunity for local artists.

Greg Fishel has worked as a meteorologist for WRAL-TV since 1981 and until recently, he denied the existence of global warming. In 2015, he changed his mind after examining the issue scientifically rather than ideologically. In an October 12 blogpost on the WRAL site, Fishel explained his change of heart and his support for the fight against global warming. The Washington Post picked up the story, projecting Fishel into the national spotlight.

Urban Designer Matt Tomasulo is passionate about making creative use of public spaces. Working in the Triangle area, he has started such urban design projects as the Raleigh Beach, a traveling biergarten, CityFabric, and Walk [Raleigh]. The success of Walk [Raleigh] has caused BlueCross Blue Shield of North Carolina to team up with Tomasulo for the Walk [Your City] campaign which encourages residents to walk to destinations in their cities rather than drive. Walk [Your City] is now in six continents and and six different communities in Raleigh have been chosen with Tomasulo to increase walkability.
