Opening in 2012, the Mattie Arts Center is located in the old court house at Swanquarter, NC. Mattie, is an acronym for Mattamuskeet Artisans, Teaching, Training, Instructing and educating. Patrice (Pat) Bertke is program administrator and Judy McLawhorn is the director of the Mattie Arts Center. Besides teaching an amazing variety of artwork, they also have the Mattie Arts Center Sales Gallery selling the arts and crafts of local artists. The Mattie Arts Center holds a Fall Festival as an annual fundraiser and at Christmas sponsors the David Roach Christmas Concert, performed by the multitalented songwriter and pianist, David Roach.
