Bill Smith is the legendary head chef at Crook’s Corner, the institution of classic Southern cuisine on the Carrboro-Chapel Hill divide. In the dozen years since Smith pioneered his honeysuckle sorbet, he has taught his employees how to pick the flowers. Now he is exploring how to preserve honeysuckles, in case they disappear in the future.

HB 1086, the Refugee Resettlement Act, would allow local governments to request a moratorium on new refugees by passing a simple resolution stating that resettling refugees into their area would be bad. That request would then be forwarded to the North Carolina Refugee Assistance Program and federal level.

Last year the General Assembly allowed Republican Justice Bob Edmunds a retention election, a system never before used in North Carolina. In a retention election, the only choice is whether to keep the incumbent or to appoint a replacement. This violated the state constitution, forcing Edmunds to run in a real election beginning on June 7.

This week, Moogfest will at last arrive in Durham after a year and a half of anticipatory debate, analysis, and excitement. The ambition of Moogfest 2014, and the financial flop that followed, helped push the event to Durham after failed investments. Organizers have since gained support by a local network of sponsors aspiring to develop the region's growing tech image.

Brickman has helped build an extensive, cross-discipline network to support the festival’s restart.
