Each year, Garden & Gun magazine publishes an issue featuring a photograph of a dog on the cover. The dogs are part of the magazine’s “Good Dog” column and have included noble retrievers, proud pointers, and regal setters. To celebrate the magazine’s tenth anniversary, this issue’s cover features a photograph of three of their favorite canine cover stars in Garland, North Carolina.

The Museum’s newest affiliate members group, the Friends of Photography, funded the recent acquisition of five new photographs for the Museum’s permanent collection. The new works include two photographs by Seydou Keita of Bamako, Mali and three by Deborah Luster or New Orleans. Four of the photographs are pictured and the artists and their work is detailed.

Noted were individuals like printmaker Hubby Blevin (also an amateur archaeologist); New York born painter Jean Montana, and woodcarver Gary Storm. This flow of creative juices suggested something in the water—and air—inspired this bustling colony.
