Description: Correspondence and receipts of former North Carolina Governor Elias Carr of Sparta, N.C. primarily for his farm and business interests. Much of the material is related to the production and sale of cotton. Also included are Carr's exemption papers from the Confederate States of America (CSA), official copies of CSA General Orders 69 & 71 with holograph signature of General Robert E. Lee and David Lowery Swain, and correspondence related to his official duty as an agriculturalist for the CSA tasked with producing agricultural products for the army. Other correspondence details family information and Carr's youth.
