Abstract:
In 1920, Julius Ward Harriss and his son-in-law W. Conner Covington founded Harriss & Covington Hosiery Mills in High Point. Their first product was ladies' mercerized cotton stockings, but they later switched to men's hosiery. Today, Harriss & Covington employs over 230 people, with weekly production approximately 20,000 dozen pair.

Abstract:
Hadley-Peoples became Siler City's first industry in August 1895. The company is a supplier of custom-made yarns. Very little of the company's product ends up in wearing apparel. Their principal market is in the manufacture of industrial goods. Hadley-Peoples yarns are used in hydraulic hoses, hoses on gasoline pumps, conveyor belts for coal mining and many others.

It is a small, family-owned firm which serves about 16,000 customers with 30,000 telephones in Lee and Harnett counties and in small areas of Chatham and Moore counties. Abstract:
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, founded in Durham about 1960, has a small but affluent congregation. When a newer sanctuary was constructed in 1977, the building contained stained glass windows with stunning visual impact. Twenty-three feet high, they extend around three sides of the church for a total length of seventy-three feet. Four smaller windows are at the rear of the church. Leandro Velasco designed all.
