Chief, the bull elephant of the John Robinson Circus, crushed his handler and wend on a rampage in the streets of Charlotte, NC. Plagued with bouts of testosterone driven madness, Chief was sent to live at Cincinnati Zoological Gardens. A decade later, chief killed two more trainers and was executed and served in a Cincinnati hotel restaurant.

25-year-old Raynisha Caldwell decided to organize a peaceful protest march in her home town of Mooresville, and was met with a viral internet backlash of complaints, warnings and even death threats. When she arrived at the police department that was overwhelmed with calls from concerned citizens against the march, she was surprised by the level of support that was offered. With roughly 200 people of various races participating alongside the Mooresville police department and Iredell County Sheriff's Office, the march happened peacefully.

This profile of a transgender man follows the story of Mitchell, the child of a preacher. Born Betsy, Mitchell kept the truth of himself hidden throughout childhood, adulthood, marriage and even motherhood, until his own mother’s death from cancer. Not being able to continue with the secrecy anymore, Mitchell came out as gay to his husband and kids and then transgender to his elementary school where he taught. As of the writing of this article, Mitchell and his sister Joy are both fighting their own battle with breast cancer.

Where some counties have exhibited animal euthanization rates as high as 98%, program changes at CMACC have seen rates drop to 27%, one of the lowest in the nation.
