In response to the craze for hard soda, Big Boss Brewing Company recently released a limited Root Beer Stout. The drink recipe was created by Brewmaster Brad Wynn and Jon Lehman, founder of Brood Soda in Durham. Lehman specializes in creating unusual combinations of flavors that are popular among craft-beer drinkers.

Bombshell Beer Company is North Carolina’s only all-female-owned microbrewery with all female brewers. Ellen Joyner, Michelle Miniutti, and Jackie Hudspeth started the brewery in Holly Springs with hopes of bringing more women into the craft beer world.

Resident Culture Brewing in Charlotte, founded by Phillip McLamb, has been the quickest local brewery to begin canning and has released seven cans in five months. It was also the first local brewery to employ a coolship, which is a large, open-air vessel used for spontaneous fermentation of beer. The brewery’s bestselling craft beers have been created by head brewer, Chris Tropeano.
