Description: Part 1 of a group interview with seven members of the United States Navy B-1 Band. Those interviewed include: Wray R. Herring, Abe Thurman, Calvin Morrow, Richard Jones, Simeon O. Holloway, John Gilmer, and Huey L. Lawrence. The B-1 Band was the first all-African American band in the U. S. Navy during World War II. The members discuss their service with their beginnings in Norfolk, Va. and with basic training, their stationing at Chapel Hill, N.C., and their final stop in Hawaii. Interviewer: Alex Albright.
