Tucker's interviewing Dr. Les Zeager, Dr. Sylvie Debevec Henning, and Dr. Larry Tise about East Carolina University's Thomas Harriot Lecture Series and Voyages of Discovery Lecture Series. Dr. Zeager recounts the conception and development of the series, the significance of the Voyages of Discovery name, the growth and popularity of the series, the role of the Harriot College administration in developing and producing the Voyages of Discovery, and his thoughts about the success of the series and his role. Dr. Henning speaks about how the Voyages of Discovery series is unique in relation to other lecture series, expansion of the series, how lecturers were chosen and the range of disciplines they represent, how university and community interests work together to produce the Voyages of Discovery series, the role of Harriot College administration, and plans for the 2009/2010 series. Dr. Tise describes the interest shown by Dean Sparrow of the Arts & Sciences College in naming the College for Thomas Harriot, his own development as a Harriot scholar, and some of Harriot's scientific accomplishments, including accurate methods for navigation between Europe and the New World, the first accurate map of the Outer Banks, writing and publication of an English language book about his observations in the New World, and his astronomical studies and experiments with telescopes.
