Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George starts a letter to his father by saying that this is not his usual day for writing, but he has some things of interest to tell him. George writes about plowing the back lot and laying his garden in beds. He says that his baby brother Johnny is doing well and growing. He also relates that a wood pile at the Depot caught on fire and spread into a large fire. They had to work hard to save the stores in town from burning down. George says that the town is up in arms against the Railroad Company for pulling wood into the town. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
