Costing between $25,000 to $30,000, it is a comfortable, well-padded seat that is part of an aircrew automated escape system. So successful has Stencel been in contract competition with companies like Douglass Aircraft that it is now the world's leading manufacturer of military ejection seats.

The Family Lines System, which is composed of five of the country's railroads, operates almost 1,900 miles of track in North Carolina. This is almost half of the state's total of 4,115 rail miles. The railroads are Seaboard Coast Line, Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, Georgia, and West Point.

J.A. Hackney & Sons started in Washington, North Carolina in 1946. The company is not to be confused with Hackney Bros. Body Company in Wilson, which specializes in refrigerated van bodies. The companies are separate but are managed by cousins. The Washington company manufactures more truck bodies for delivery of beverages than any other company in the country.

Abstract:
In 1895 in High Point, A. O. Redding began making household furniture under the name of Alma Furniture Company. In 1904, Charles E. Hayworth, at age twenty-two, founded the Hayworth Roll and Panel Company which was located next door to the Alma Furniture. When Redding died in 1921, Hayworth purchased Alma at auction. Today he is president of Alma Desk Company and other companies that comprise Hayworth Industries.
