Bradham recounts the history of the Green Park Hotel in Blowing Rock. Built in 1882, the hotel survives from a period when every mountain town and every Piedmont spring had a large hotel for vacationers. This year marks its ninety-fourth year of continuous operation.

Overlooking the Johns River Gorge in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Walter Alexander built Mayview Manor and introduced a new standard of Appalachian splendor. The history of this Manor lives on in photographs, even after it was closed in 1966 and demolished in 1978.
