J.A. Hackney & Sons started in Washington, North Carolina in 1946 on $1,000 in capital, six employees, and high hopes. Today the company employs over two hundred workers with sales of over $5.5 million. Hackney & Sons is the country's largest producer of beverage delivery truck bodies.

Abstract:
J.A. Hackney & Sons started in Washington, North Carolina in 1946. The company is not to be confused with Hackney Bros. Body Company in Wilson, which specializes in refrigerated van bodies. The companies are separate but are managed by cousins. The Washington company manufactures more truck bodies for delivery of beverages than any other company in the country.
