Every fall, hordes of waterfowl make their way down south, finding resting spots in North Carolina's sounds and lakes. However, severe drought in Canadian breeding grounds resulted in lesser populations. This with the higher cost of Federal duck stamps resulted in fewer waterfowl hunters for the season. This led to a 21 percent decrease in the numbers of waterfowl harvested. But when contrasted with other states, North Carolina more than gets its share.

Work is underway on the World's largest bridge tunnel, spanning the Chesapeake Bay with 17.5 miles of steel and concrete. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel will link the Eastern Shore of Virginia with Norfolk mainland, removing the last of the major water barriers that have historically kept communities on Tidewater's many peninsulas apart. It will thus be an asset for North Carolina, providing easier access from the Mid-Atlantic to the Carolina coast.

The first state-sponsored trade fair in America, the trade fair is expected to draw more than 300,000 buyers and visitors from all over the country to the over 1000 exhibits.
