Despite civil unrest and a worldwide pandemic, memorabilia collectors still expressed much passion during The Eddie Vannoy Collection auction. In Ashe County, NC more than 300 auctioneers joined together to bid on some of Vannoy’s nostalgic pieces. The collection ranged from items like antique gas pumps priced at $60,000 to the rare 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona supercar priced at $231,000.

Earlier this year, Rebecca Williams with grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council and N.C. arts Council, completed her documentary film on the story of Beacon Manufacturing in Swannanoa. The facility, built in 1936, was destroyed by fire in 2003. She is hoping it will air on public television and in museums and schools in the coming months. Beacon was once the nation's largest blanket mill. Williams film is entitled "Blanket Town".

Wehn Dale Halton took over as preident of Charlotte's Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in 1981, she was a rare female CEO. The franchise originally started by her grandparents in 1905, was nearly insolvent at the time Halton arrived on the scene. By the end of Halton's tenure and its sale to Pepsi Bottling Group in 2005, the business had become the ninth largest bottler in the nation.

The Local Government Commission and State Treasurer Dale Folwell are presently putting the brakes on Project Grace's application over a clause that would require New Hanover County to pay the project's chief architect, Zimmer Development $2.5 million, if the commission foes not approve the submitted plans. A public private venture, Project Grace would completely redevelop an entire blighted city block, including a library and Cape Fear Museum of History.
