Road building held a low priority in North Carolina until the beginning of the 20th-century. The implementation of Rural Free Delivery (RFD), the North Carolina Good Roads Association, and the affordable Model T Ford made road construction a necessity. During the 1920s, through the efforts of Gov. Cameron Morrison and State Highway Commission Chairman, Frank Page, the state became nationally known for its outstanding highway system.

This is the first in a series of interviews with men who were instrumental in making possible the state's current progressive program of wildlife management. Col. Frank L. Page, the first president of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, reminisces about his conservation work, which has included working successfully with others to help establish the North Carolina Wildlife Commission in 1947.

Robert L. Page's hobby was visiting flea markets looking for pieces of china. His hobby grew into his company, Greensboro-based Replacements Ltd., the world's largest supplier of discontinued crystal and china. It has grown from a one-man operation in 1981 to a business employing fifty-five in 1986. Sales are expected to exceed $5 million in 1986. In the same year Page was named North Carolina's Small Business Man of the Year.
