Commissioned through the Artworks for State Buildings program, the sonic plaza at East Carolina University's Joyner Library is the creation of internationally known sound artist Christopher Janney. The three-hundred-foot plaza contains columns that produce sounds as people walk by and activate electronic beams; a percussive water wall; a twelve-foot swirling circle of water vapor; and a clock tower.

Edward Moseley and the famous Moseley Map are profiled. Moseley was the surveyor general of North Carolina and created his map to correct the mistakes in John Lawson’s 1709 map. The only copy of the map in the United States is owned by East Carolina University and its history and appearance are described.

Being planned was ECU’s Centennial celebration, which would take place between 2007-2009. Endeavors commemorating the event included Henry Ferrell’s Promises Kept. An example of a historical highlight for ECU’s century long development was a quote from the 1908 groundbreaking event speech made by the regarded father of ECU, Thomas Jordan Jarvis.
