Halifax County expects an economic boost in 2007 as it develops into one of the premier vacation destinations in the South. Randy Parton, brother of Dolly, will open the Randy Parton Theater and Carolina Crossroads Music and Entertainment District near Roanoke Rapids. The project is expected to pump $500 million into the local economy and create and estimated 12,000 jobs over the next five years.

The Piedmont Farm Tour is a self-guided weekend exploration of thirty-eight farms in Alamance, Chatham, Orange, and Person counties, sponsored by Pittsboro's Carolina Farm Stewardship Association. The local farms participating in the tours show the public how to get sustainable food with quality nutrition and taste.

Abstract:
Students in Broderick Ward’s Electric Trade II class at Southeast Halifax High School in Halifax, North Carolina recently converted a 1989 Geo Metro into an electric car, and won a national racing competition with it. That Metro and the students from a poor and rural county are what inspired a novel that is the basis for a new Hollywood film.
