The control of wild boar in the Great Smokey Mountains National park has become a contention between Park Service managers and NCWRC officers. A previous agreement provided for the live-trapping of boar in the Park and their move to public hunting lands; however, the Park Service has been moving toward attempts at complete eradication from the park to which the NCWRC are not amenable.

Given recommendations from the Division of Inland Fisheries, the NCWRC has declared four lakes as trophy-sized largemouth bass lakes. This change increases the minimum size limit on bass in these waters.

The status foxes in North Carolina has been of concern in recent years. State and local laws controlling fox hunting and trapping have been unclear and often contradictory. The NCWRC has made efforts to clarify wildlife laws through a game law revision, and the current status of foxes is that they are considered a game animal and thus may not be trapped or their skins sold.

Hidden in western North Carolina is one of the best whitewater canoeing rivers in the country—the Nantahala River. However, in 1975 the area around the river was cut into by bulldozers to accommodate Corridor A. But recently, local North Carolinians have decided they do not want to see the Nantahala River subject to more construction.
