Abstract:
The old Burwell School, located in Hillsborough, will undergo reconstruction. The school operated from 1837-1857 as a women's Presbyterian school and later became a normal house after the Burwell family left in 1857 to teach school in Charlotte. Governor Sanford purchased the site for preservation in 1963, and several exterior buildings including, the old kitchen and the schoolroom, need restoration. The primary building remains in excellent condition and requires only minimal work.

Abstract:
After the famous day when the Wright brothers flew around Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville Wright sent a message through the Kitty Hawk Weather Bureau station. This article gives information on how the press reacted to that first flight in 1903. THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT, a Norfolk newspaper, wrote an inaccurate story of the flight the next morning. Other out-of-state papers picked the story up and the inaccuracies of the flight continued to filter through the media before it was corrected.

Camp Willow Run, located on Lake Gaston a few miles from Littleton, has a unique feature. The sleeping arrangements are fourteen Southern Railway retired box cars that have been paneled, air-conditioned, and made habitable for sleeping. A second fleet of retired cars from the Norfolk and Western Railway are waiting to be refurbished. All the normal recreational facilities and activities of a summer camp are available at Willow Run.
