In 1951, the symphony was logging 8,500 miles annually with a subsidy of $15,000. that number had increased to nearly $1 million by 1978.

"For more than a century and a half, Thalian Hall hosted world-class performances, nurtured new talent, and perfected its role as the grande dame of Wilmington's arts scene." Completed on October12, 1858, Thalian Hall underwent several name changes, including Wilmington Opera House and the Academy of Music. surviving from its formative years is the original drop curtain crafted by William Russell Smith that graced the theater's stage at its opening in 1858.

"Some hobbies take up a corner of the garage. In Hertford County, an eclectic collection of Americana fills an entire high school." Brady Jefcoat collected nearly anything that struck his fancy. His collection of 17,000 plus items is on display at the Brady C. Jefcoat Museum of Americana in Murfreesboro. Jefcoat, who died in 2013, began the bulk of his collecting in the early 1970s.
