"For more than a century and a half, Thalian Hall hosted world-class performances, nurtured new talent, and perfected its role as the grande dame of Wilmington's arts scene." Completed on October12, 1858, Thalian Hall underwent several name changes, including Wilmington Opera House and the Academy of Music. surviving from its formative years is the original drop curtain crafted by William Russell Smith that graced the theater's stage at its opening in 1858.
