MINUTES OF STAFF MEETING
Psychology Department
May 15, 1972
The Psychology Department held its May meeting at 4 o'clock in EP 104 on May
iS, 1972.
PRESENT: Mitchell, Harris, Corwin, Tacker, Whitley, Grossnickle, Daugherty, Lao,
Martoccia, Stapleton, Higgins and Moore.
In the absence of Dr. Prewett, Dr. Mitchell chaired the meeting.
Dr. Mitchell opened the meeting with a report on Dr. Prewett, stating that he
will be transferred to Duke as soon as an opening is available.
The minutes of the last meeting were discussed and item number 11 was revised
to read as follows:
11. Dr. Mitchell announced that the School of Business is going 'to make a request
that they be authorized to offer an undergraduate degree requiring only 180
hours. After a lengthy discussion, Mrs. Harris moved that the Department
encourage the Senate representatives to vote in favor of the request and for
an overall reduction in hours when it comes up. Motion passed with eight
voting for and six against.
Dr. Mitchell just returned from a meeting with the Chairman of Arts and Sciences
concerning the college curriculum. This meeting was discussed.
Dr. Mitchell announced that we received more money for telephone calls and postage,
and should be all right in this department.
Dr. Corwin announced Lynn Whitley will be taking her oral May 16, 1972, at 1:30 p.m..
Room 212 if anyone cared to attend.
Dr. Mitchell stated that this will be Dr. Jenkin's 25th year at ECU. Dr. Jenkins
would like to make a 25 year report to the atock holders. He will contrast ECU
as it was 25 years ago with it's present status. Anyone having information about
the department of psychology's status over the past 25 years is invited to submit
this information along with any other ideas for use in his presentation.
Dr. Mitchell stated that the matter of the departmental code will come up in the
senate and was discussed.
Dr. Mitchell received a letter from a former student who completed all requirements
except Psychology 310, which is a required course. Mrs. Harris suggested he take
a comparable course at another university and transfer hours in.
