Department's slide projectors, and if so to please see that it is returned
to the proper storage spot.

State equipment off campus for any reason.

4. It was announced that Dr. Daugherty had been elected advisor to Psi Chi.

5. It was discussed as to what the staff wished to do for Dr. Prewett and
Mrs. Coleman during their illness. It was decided that each would make

Jane L. Rayford.

Dr. Mitchell announced that the School of Business is going to make a
request that they be authorized to offer an undergraduate degree requiring
only 180 hours. After a lengthy discussion Mrs. Harris moved that the
Department encourage the Senate representatives to vote in favor of the
request and for an over-all reduction in hours when it comes up. Dr.

Tacker amended the motion to state that the hours be taken from the requirec
hours rather than elective ones. Motion passed with eight voting for and
six against.

Dr. Roberts asked that the Senate representatives ask that this be done
for the University as a whole rather than by single requests of Departments.

This suggestion was approved by 13 voting for and one against.

Dr. Mitchell announced that the Dean of Arts and Sciences had requested
that the matter of the proposed department code be brought before the staff
for discussion. After a lengthy discussion Dr. Tacker moved that the
Department go on record as stating their belief in the general philosphy

of liberalizing the democratic process but that this proposal is not clear
enough to take action on. The motion was passed unanimously.

Dr. Long announced that the graduate handbook was now ready for distributior
and anyone wishing one could pick one up in the Departmental Office.

Dr. Grossnickle asked that Dr. Daugherty be commended for the work he did
as Chairman of the Local Arrangements Committee for the spring meeting of
the North Carolina Psychological Association which was held on the campus
April 21-22, 1972.

Dr. Daugherty expressed his appreciation for the full cooperation he
received from each member of the committee.

Dr. Roberts announced that there would be an open meeting tonight (April 24)
to consider the city school budget.

Dr. Lao announced that the Speech Department was moving out to Allied Healtt
and wondered if perhaps the Psychology Department might be able to have one
or two of the observation rooms used by that Department assigned to the
Psychology Department.

Dr. Mitchell announced that Dr. Arnold Krugman was elected as the new
president-elect of the North Carolina Psychological Association. Dr. Bruce
Norton is now acting President during Dr. Prewett's illness and will assume
the office of President July 1, 1972.
