Critics argue that the budget shortchanges students while enriching the wealthy. Proponents argue that the budget will dramatically increase teacher pay and improve public education outcomes.

Vinny Valdivia, a former staffer at Chapel Hill’s DSI Comedy Theater, wrote a post on Facebook that prompted a flood of comments detailing more than a decade of alleged intimidation, manipulation, sexual misconduct, and favoritism that ultimately led to his resignation. Former DSI performers say a culture of misogyny had taken root at the theater long before.

Abstract:
This is the third of a three-part investigation into North Carolina’s hog-farming industry. The article discusses ways to make the multi-billion-dollar hog industry more sustainable, both for the environment and the state’s rural population, and the political and financial reasons those steps have not been taken.

An agave Americana plant in Historic Oakwood served as a botanical landmark for twenty-five years until it was cut down last Wednesday. Agave is typically used to make tequila and mescal, but this plant will become beer. A collaboration between Raleigh mezcaleria Gallo Pelón and Bond Brothers Brewing Company of Cary plan to make two beer styles out of the agave.

Patrick Darius Mix Jr., also known as P.A.T. Junior, is a Raleigh rapper using his music to spread messages about personal growth, faith, forming connections among the Triangle’s expanding hip-hop scene. Mix is known for engaging with the crowd, and treats his voice as an instrument that is part of an ensemble. This approach has translated to a broad and multicultural appeal for local audiences.
