This feature gives the story of how a nurse named Maggie Lebo, who while walking her dog at Kitty Hawk, came upon a man face down in the sand. She immediately started CPR and out of nowhere came two Dominion Energy lineman named Jeremy Aycock and Quentin Conner, based out of Williamston, NC. They used their new AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and the three saved the tourists life.

Traditions associated with Christmas, German immigrant style, are still part of the Yuletide season for many North Carolinians. Traditions traced back to German immigrants also with a religious base include the Moravians’ Putz, a nativity related decoration, and Lebkuchen, a cookie. A holiday tradition with a somewhat dubious origin was the Christmas tree, this decoration possibly brought in by Hessian soldiers during the Revolutionary War.

Angela Bryant was one of four black children who integrated Edwards Junior High School in 1963. She was granddaughter of Wright Parker and Nannie Barnes Parker, who owned Wright's Chick Shack, a restaurant and motel on Hwy. 301. Bryant left for UNC-Chapel Hill in 1969. earning her bachelor's degree in Math and Law. After college she returned to Rocky Mount and helped develop Wright's Center, an adult day care facility in the old Chick Shack building. In 2003, voters elected Bryant to the Rocky Mount City Council, which became the first African-American majority City Council. She was then elected to the NC House District 7 seat in 2007. She then served as State Senator from District 4 from 2012 to 2018. In 2018, Bryant was appointed to a four year term to serve as a State commissioner of Post Release and Parole Supervision.
