The North Carolina Department of Economic and Community Development--including the Office of Minority Development and Small Business Division--, the Business and Industry Development Division, and the NC Film Office all took large budget cuts this fiscal year. These cuts have curtailed some development across the state and pushed North Carolina down the list of top film-making states.

Abstract:
Despite the cap being raised only two months ago by the North Carolina General Assembly, the state's prisons over-crowding problem reached a height of 19,900 by the end of August, 254 over the cap. To reduce the prison population, the Parole Commission is give emergency powers to accelerate the release of parole-eligible, non-violent offenders.

J. Daniel Brock, Jr. has always known he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps to become an airline industry executive. Brock, Jr. made good on his word, entering the industry as the senior vice president of marketing for Piedmont Airlines in 1972, and now part of USAir operations in North Carolina, after their takeover of Piedmont in 1987.
