Oral history interview session with Dr. Sydney Fitz C. Barnwell conducted by Ruth Moskop and Paul Cunningham on 2001 May 21. Dr. Barnwell, a board-certified surgeon in eastern North Carolina, noticed a great need for major medical facilities in the late 1960s. During his tenure at the Craven County Health Department, he worked tirelessly to educate the community about the importance of diet and exercise as a form of preventative healthcare.
