Description
Letter from Lieutenant Louis Carroll English to his parents in Louisville while he was stationed aboard USS Trathen (DD-530) out of San Francisco, California. He writes about jumping from the side of the ship and swimming in the warm waters, that he has taken up sketching, and that he is excited for Christmas. English enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served as a physician on USS Trathen, a Navy Fletcher class destroyer, in the South Pacific for 18 months.
