Description: Recording of concert entitled Beethoven and His Time, III. Beethoven and the Romantic. Concert begins with a performance of "Seven variations on the theme 'Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen' from 'The Magic Flute'" by Mozart performed by Selma Gokcen, cello and John O'Brien, piano. Next is a lecture titled "The age of Romanticism" by ECU history professor Bodo Nischan, then a performance of Beethoven's Sonata in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1, for cello and piano. After intermission, ECU English professor McKay Sundwall reads three selections from Goethe's "Faust" and draws parallels between Goethe's work and Beethoven's. Last on the program Gokcen and O'Brien perform Beethoven's Sonata in D Major, Op. 102, No. 2. Recorded October 15, 1992.
