Description: Diary compiled (8/19/1943 - 9/15/1945) by John A. Yeager while serving as a US Navy Electrician's Mate 2/c aboard the USS Essex (CV 9) during World War II in the Pacific. Yeager describes operations taken by the Essex and other ships against Japanese air, ground, and naval forces in the Pacific theater, attacks by Japanese air and naval forces on the Essex and other ships, and other major events of the war. The first entry in the diary is found on image 106, and after reaching the end of the book diary entries continue on image 47. Prior to the diary are diagrams and notes related to Mr. Yeager's shipboard duties. Two notes by Mr. Yeager dated February 3, 1995 and February 3, 1996 provide additional context.
