Description: Astronaut Virgil I. (Gus) Grissom, MR-4 mission pilot, relaxes Wednesday morning (July 19, 1961) at NASA astronaut headquarters in Hangar "S" at Cape Canaveral, Florida, before being transported to the Mecury-Redstone launch pad -- where he was inserted in the Mecury spacecraft Liberty Bell 7. Astronaut Walter M. Schirra, scheduled to observe the progress of Grissom's space flight from the Operations Room in the Mercury Control Center at Canaveral, discusses the flight plan with Grissom.
