Description: Letter from Edward Stanly in New Bern, N.C. to Elijah Clark, William G. Bryan, John Blackwell,and Moses [?] W. Jarvis. While on a return visit to North Carolina, Edward Stanly received an invitation to a public dinner from men in New Bern. In this letter, Stanly thanks them for the invitation but he declines it. Stanly expresses the attachment he feels to New Bern. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
