Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow at the Hillsborough Military Academy to his father Thomas Sparrow. George writes to his father that he has been anxious about the family’s well-being since he heard that Washington, NC had been recaptured by Confederate troops. George asks his father to let him know if anything happened to any members of the family and he will come to help immediately. George also says not to worry about him getting a demerit because everyone at the academy gets a few demerits. He then writes that if he decides to move his mother and the rest of the family it would be too expensive to live in Hillsborough and they would be better off in Morganton. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
