Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that Annie, Jennie, and his mother received letters from him yesterday. He also writes about going down to look at the peas in his garden with his mother and visitors who have come to the house. George says that all of the visitors miss Mr. Sparrow and wish he was there to sing with them. The preparations for the Fourth of July are progressing, and George works shelling corn for his Grandpa in the afternoons. Cousin Billy is getting his office plastered and carpeted so that he can go and stay. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
