Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George explains the hastiness of his recent letters to his father, saying that he has been occupied in keeping his garden safe from the cold. George then writes about his mother dressing his baby brother Johnny and their Grandpa holding Johnny whenever he comes over. While his father is away, George is tending to all of the money matters, and he gives his father an account of the bills he paid. Last Saturday, George went to the woods with the boys and got a load of raspberries and plans to go back. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
