Description: Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father about the weather, cleaning out the pig pen, going to church with his mother, having wild duck for dinner at his grandma’s house, duck hunting, the grass in the front yard, and planting corn in the back lot. George writes about his younger siblings, saying that his baby brother John grows bigger and fatter every day and that the girls nearly kiss him to death. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
