Description: Zentmayer's first commercial model in 1858 was the large, elaborate and expensive Grand American of which about 55 were manufactured. Prof. Alexander Agassiz of Harvard convinced him to make a less expensive research microscope. This instrument has the original set of polarizers and a camera lucida for drawing. Agassiz was a famous mining engineer, who was one of the founders of marine biology. The serial number is 745.
