- Beck was originally Smith & Beck, who made microscopes for Lister and Darwin. Lord Lister's father was responsible for some of the major innovations. They manufactured several lines of instruments from the very elaborate Best to student microscopes. This model was also made with a tripod base. The serial number is 8303.
