Description: Interview with William K. Jones concerning his experiences in the Marine Corp during and after World War II. General Jones graduated from the University of Kansas in 1937 and was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1938. He describes his early military training, the Marine Corps in the late 1930s, and duty on the Pacific Coast. Jones tells of being transferred to the Atlantic coast prior to the outbreak of W.W. II, shore patrol at Charleston, S.C., and duty at a British base in Iceland. In the second interview, General Jones discusses his service in the South Pacific during World War II. Attention is given to duty and battle campaigns in and around New Zealand, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. Interviewer: Donald R. Lennon
