Title: Corner cupboard

Description: One-piece corner cupboard in walnut with secondary pine (HOA 110" WOA 45" DOA 20"). Molded scroll top features frieze with dark putty vines surrounding a carved and inlaid fan-and-circle cartouche with the initials "WH." Two glazed doors each have eight glazed and two wood panes. The top panes are shaped and the bottom ones have raised panels with a carved sunburst ellipse and bone central buttons. Behind the doors are four scalloped shelves. Lower portion has two raised panel doors with large carved sunburst ellipses with central bone buttons. Stands on molded ogee bracket feet. The feet have been repaired and the finial and brasses replaced. The video attributes the cupboard to the shop of the anonymous "WH" cabinetmaker, who has since been discovered to most likely be the shop of cabinetmaker William Seay of North Carolina’s Roanoke River Basin school of cabinetmaking located along the Roanoke River in Bertie County, N.C. It is likely that the piece was made for Whitmell Hill for his new manner house on his Hill's Ferry tract.
