Lutes – This term is listed in the two entries on “cedar” – one entry located in the section of “marchantable commodities” (i.e. salable resources), the other in the section of resources the colonists would find useful. This term is one among many other wooden items. The OED lists a lute as a stringed instrument, popular in the 14th through 17th centuries, plucked with the right hand and fretted by the left (akin to a guitar or banjo). - Matt
