Bylboes – This term, occuring in the Lane text in the phrase “laid him [Skyco, King Menatonon’s son and Lane’s prisoner/hostage] in bylboes,” is defined according to the OED as “a long iron bar, furnished with sliding shackles to confine the ankles of prisoners, and a lock by which to fix one end of the bar to the floor or ground.” - Matt
