Additional Notes

Greenuile, William:; William Greenville is only mentioned by Barlowe in this one instance as one of the gentlemen of the company on the 1584 Roanoke Expedition under Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe. Some scholars have tentatively identified him as one William Grenville of Penheale, a relative of Richard Grenville’s. However, while certainly possible, this theory lacks sufficient supporting evidence.;
