Hariot p.8 Hariet says that flax and hemp are of “no great store in any one place, by reason it is not planted … He apparently found naturally growing plants having similar attributes except “leafe, and stemme or stalk does differ from ours”, but has expectation that, if planted, these plants will “growe in cordage and linnins’. {H&D} NOTE: Radford considers L. medium as a var. of L. virginianum, and not a separate species as indicated by H&D.
