Eleanor White Dare (b. 1569):; Eleanor Dare was a member of the 1587 “Lost” Colony on Roanoke Island, the daughter of John White, the governor of the Roanoke settlement, and the wife of Ananias Dare, one of the assistants of the colony. She was also, notably, the mother of Virginia Dare who, born on August 18th, 1587, shortly after the colonists arrived, was the first English child born in the New World.;
